香港中文大學新亞書院聳立著孔子像,遙想當年學子們拖雞帶桔就能成為孔門子弟,有教無類,師生們你問我答,不亦樂乎。如今從小學到大學,想唸上去就要考試好考試好考試好,你講我聽你餵我張口,教育成了一張證書,學習也成為一場適者生存的淘汰賽。如果孔夫子看了《吶喊》與《魔鏡》裡學生的苦況,不知會作何感想?

如果他看完《吶喊》與《魔鏡》會目瞪口呆,那麼《街頭就是教室》大概會令他吐血,因為教育不但不再是不亦樂乎的師生討論,甚至明正言順地成了生意人的商品,自此學生從屬於考試制度,考試制度從屬於商人理念。當年孔子周遊列國,若他今日復生,恐怕會與片中的墨西哥教師們周遊街頭搞革命了。

搞革命又何止是街頭運動,一群人為不公義的事情抗爭,將其堅信的理念實踐出黎,已經是一場革命。《當服從不再是美德》裡,神父為窮困的孩子們辦學,即使沒有經費、不被社會認同、無法聘請所謂合資格教師,但還是靠不同年齡的學生讓知識一代代傳下去,共同討論、學習和生活。這位生於二十世紀的神父又是否有孔夫子的影子?

《全人學校短片選》也許就是以上的小結論,全人學校的學生及其家長深受《吶喊》與《魔鏡》的洗禮,於是走進這間不一樣的學校,辦學者在森林搞革命,與《街頭就是教室》的街頭戰士(教師)殊途同歸,實現不必在戰亂後或生活艱苦時才出現的《當服從不再是美德》裡一起討論和生活的教學願景,在比較先進的現代社會,其實我們仍然可以選擇,即使餐牌上選擇不足,我們還可以創造,因為我們不是僱客,教育不應該是手到拿來的商品。

下次再見到孔子像,不妨想一想,它到底仍然崇立著,還是早被我們擊碎了?除了觀看外,我們有手有腳,可以做甚麼?

五十年代二次大戰後。一條意大利遍遠貧窮山區的村落,許多人一直在貧困中掙扎,特別是工人、農民不能負擔孩子上學的費用。有位將自己一生獻給貧窮及受壓迫者的神父Don Lorenzo Milani為了他們而設辦了所學校名叫Barbiana。他認為這些孩子沒有教育,永遠都會是弱勢,被剝削者,當孩子有能力去表達自己的需要,可以閱讀及寫字,就可保護自己的權利。五六十年代的理想教育,沒有經費,社會不確認,沒有聘請合資格的老師,學習時通常是年長的學生教導年輕的學生,不同年齡的學生一起討論、研究,學習與生活相結合,是一個共同生活的群體。

對比香港的教育制度,目標就是教導學生應付考試、增強個人競爭力、沒有獨立思考能力、不會反抗政府或畏懼權力的奴隸,最終甘願成為市場/金錢主導的商業社會的一件工具。 Barbiana的教學理念,相信學習就是源自生活上的需要,令學生成為關心社會的公民,具批判社會的思考能力,向社會上的不公義而鬥爭。

The 1950s. Days after the Second World War. A poor mountainous village in remote area of Italy. Most people in this village agonize over poverty. They, especially workers and farmers, cannot afford their children’s education expenses. A Father, named as Don Lorenzo Milani, spent his entire life for the poor and the oppressed. He established the school “Barbiana” for them. He believed the children would always be the disadvantaged as education is lacked. If they can present their needs, also read and write, these kids could protect their own rights. The school was run without any funding, any social recognition, or any qualified teacher. Students learn by seniority system. The senior teaches the junior. They discuss. They study. And they combine learning into life.

On the other hand, HK education system aims at teaching examination skills, enhancing individual competitiveness, lacking independent mind and being unable to oppose the government. It finally makes students become a tool of the commercial society which is market/wealth-oriented.

有一群家長,他們不等待教改發落,不送子女到國外讀書,自資自力建學校實踐他們堅信的理念。

有一群教師,他們不以規矩塞住學生的嘴巴,不是縱容無規無矩,而是藉住討論和溝通來啓發學生,他們不要學生跟足他們的一套,而是要發掘每個學生自己的一套。

校長說,他們不要學生適應社會,而是創造社會。這不是填鴨/規條/單元所能做到的;不如尊重和理解學生,透過溝通來一起思考,讓學生在寛容和自由的環境學習和成長。

教育是學習。反思過往我們接受過的教育,我們學到了甚麼?如果心有不甘,不如看看全人中學和自然學校如何教育(學習)吧!

 

 

With their financial and all other efforts, a group of parents established a school to achieve their assured ideal. They insisted not to wait for the Education Reform and not to send their children to study overseas.

With their inspiration, a group of teachers discussed and communicated well with students. They insisted not to restrict their students by rules. Inspiration constructs an individual road for each student.

The principal does not agree with the student’s adaptability to the society, but the creativity. It is impossible to be achieved by duck-feeding/ rules/ unit teaching. Instead, communication through respect and understanding could provide a better learning environment to students.

Education is learning. What did we learn from our education indeed? If you feel being fooled, try to see how students are educated (have learnt) in the Holistic Education School & Gaia School

XX是好的,不過別太沉迷,否則就會荒廢學業」
這句說話,小時候聽得多了,那個XX可以是各種興趣,如跑步、打機、畫畫、唱歌、看小說……還有很多很多。
長大後慢慢就會發現事實是相反,(被逼)沉迷讀書令不知多少人荒廢了自已的興趣,興趣這一道最早反映着我們性格的鏡子,也是我們創建自已生活的資源,失去了,有些人唔覺唔覺,有些人會後悔一生。田徑進步中的小隊因考試四分五裂,這種劇情,換個角度看便變了典型青春片,但問題是成長對環境的妥協、志向的離棄 ,為何如此典型?片中有位老師說最緊要學生夠乖夠普通,蠢一點也沒所謂,這是幾多教育作者的心底話?

” XX is good, but don’t be indulged in or you will rust your study.” We have heard of this statement for thousands of times in our childhood. The XX in the statement could be any kind of hobbies- jogging, virtual games, drawing, singing or even reading novels.

Time past and we knew it is not the reality. Being forced to get indulged in study has actually made our hobbies rusted. Hobby is a mirror of personality and a resource to build our lives. Some of us may not be aware of the loss of it while some may be regret for the entire lifetime.

A typical teenage film shows us not only the typical teenage storyline, but also the problem of compromising with the reality and the desertion of aspiration. A teacher said students only have to be well-behaved and general and it is therefore not a matter if they are a bit stupid. Indeed, how many educators would agree to this statement?

用上原創歌劇加動畫貫穿全片,自然令人想起《the wall》,但直接地take side批判,充滿火氣的紀錄片,我們是不能想像香港電台可以製作到的,而台灣的公共電視台就可以了。台灣有法例禁止按能力分班,卻無幾多校長實行,按能力分班也按班分配資源,高分班光管都多條,老師忍不了跪地求公平,校長就說這不是單一情況,像小孩子辯解說「隔離班陳小明都係咁啦!」。社會對人的分化就由學校開始。那麼香港呢?我們有老師會為不公平站出來,或跪在地嗎?還是香港人更清楚古語有云「有教無累」呢?

A film filled up with original musical and animation- it makes us think of <the wall>. To be more critical, it is a documentary filled up with fire. We cannot imagine such a production by the RTHK, but the Taiwan Public Television . An ordinance in Taiwan prohibits schools to separate students into classes by their abilities. However, not many principals made this the case. They allocate students into classes and different resources into different classes. Better class with more resources. Some teachers begged from the principal to be fair but the principal said it is a common practice of school. School becomes a place to start social differentiation. What about Hong Kong? Do we have any teacher who is willing to stand against the unfair situation or beg from the principal? Or do HK people really understand the old saying: teaching without classification?

導演朝兒,如果大家還記得2005年的電影節,我們曾放映她的作品<這就是民主的面貌>(This is What Democracy Looks Like, 台譯:西雅圖火未花),這次她深入墨西哥,更進一步探討西雅圖反世貿運動的深入意涵之一:當這世界一切皆可變賣,我們的生存,是人,還是寵物,抑或奴隸?

這齣影片,是關於墨西哥教師反對教育商品化,或對公共服務私營化的運動,當然,透過各大由美國主導的國際新聞社,這單新聞,就變成了「教師要求加薪」,但教師要求加薪怎會演變成家長學生打埋一份,與警察衝突,就當然不會細究。

在香港,我們似乎很接受公共服務私營化,什麼醫管局、市建局、房協,什麼領匯,大搖大擺地把我們的公民權利變成商品出售。現在還大談教改,到底香港的教改,是否真的教改?有趣的是,當出了名維護那些商業邏輯來處理公共服務的前規劃地政局長孫明揚,竟成了教育局長後,我們的「教改」又會成何事?

我們以為落後貧窮的墨西哥地方教師卻告訴我們,教育,就是讓一個人知道如何以知識和行動,去維護一個人該有的尊嚴;而不是,把一個孩子變成商品一樣送給大老闆做員工!

Production by the Director Jill Friedberg. If you remember the Film Festival 2005, her production – <This is What Democracy Looks Like> has been shown. This time she goes deep into Mexico to further investigate on one of the meanings of anti-WTO: when everything can be sold in the world, our form of existence is human, pet or slave indeed?

This film is about the anti-commodification of education by Mexican teachers, or the movements of the privatization of civil services. Undoubtedly, under the US-oriented international mass media, it becomes a news of “teachers’ request on increasing pay”. If it is the fact, there should be no investigation on the reasons of why parents and students get involved and strike with the police.

In Hong Kong, we seem to accept the privatization of civil services. Housing Authority, Urban Renewal Authority, The Housing Society, and the Link, all of them are obviously selling our civil privilege as commodity. Nowadays, they talked about the Education Reform. Is the so-called Education Reform a real one? The funniest thing is that the secretary of the former Housing, Planning and Lands Bureau, Mr. Micheal M.Y. Suen, who is well-known as getting civil services done with protection to the commercial logic, now becomes the secretary of the Education Bureau. What will the “Education Reform” become?

The local teachers from Mexico destitute regions have given us a message: Education is to let people know how to protect human’s dignity by knowledge and action, but not sending kids to be labor of employer, just as a piece of commodity.
